Ok so I know I've been gone for a while...:( I'm sorry! Please forgive!
But I have a pwesent for you...a new REVIEW! *flash applause sound*
Onward:
Movie: Mysterious SkinGrade: A-
Reason: I...well... What can I say about this film? It was a raw take on molestation, teenage male prostitution, assumed Alien abduction, Teen drug abuse, and the outcomes of all three ideas rolled into one unanimous, horrible truth. My heart went out to both main characters played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Neil, and Brady Corbet as Brian. Levitt, does an awesome job at putting himself into this role completely. For a few seconds, I had to remind myself that this wasn't his life, as a bio-pic, but a character he was playing. For Corbet, I thought that his portayal as the nerdy-ish small town boy was dead on, though not a hard part to play, he did add alot more depth than one would expect for his particular character. Other good supporting roles were Michelle Trachtenberg as Wendy, Neils partner in crime and "Soulmate"; and Jeffrey Licon as Eric, Neil and Wendy's gothicly flambouyant gay friend who has a small thing for Neil.
This movie deals with so much in such a short period of time. It's shocking, it's moving, and ultimately it's haunting. It will definitely leave you with "Well if this hadn't happened...I wonder..." thoughts jumping around in your head. I saw this movie a week ago and it is still fresh in my mind.
The only reason there is a minus after the "A", is simply because of the topics the movie involves, and the fact that I didn't feel as if there was an adequate enough warning of the heaviness of the topics (:P but that's just me). Also, just like in "Role Models", repetitive use of profanity from a child still irks me.
If you are someone who personally identifies with this movie as I am, I must tell you, have some one with you. It will bring out the strongest of emotions.
